Is a Book Publishing Company Still Worth It

I’m wondering if working with a book publishing company is still the best path for new authors. Do they truly offer better editing, marketing, and distribution, or do writers give up too much control and profit? With self-publishing platforms growing, is the traditional route becoming outdated? I’d like to know if anyone here has firsthand experience was the process transparent, and did the book publishing company actually help your book reach more readers in today’s market?
